Keeping Our Guests Safe

August 3, 2024

In response to our staff receiving some criticism and reviewers not understanding the reasons behind our rules to keep our guests safe, please see the educational article below.

Navarre Family Watersports is classified as a livery. We are regulated by the state of Florida and must follow a multitude of rules and regulations. Florida laws are different for a livery than for individuals who own personal watercraft (PWC). As a livery, guests must be 18 years of age to rent or lease a PWC. Many liveries allow individuals as young as 16 years old to operate a PWC, which was clearly defined in FWC regulations several years ago. Today, you can interpret the law to mean that you must be 18 years old to operate a PWC if you are a livery.

In Florida, the insurance market is unpredictable, and many insurance companies restrict the age to rent or operate a PWC to 21, with some extending this age limit to 26. Furthermore, we have a great safety track record. Over 11 years of operation, 90% of our incidents, which have been minor but have destroyed our equipment, were caused by riders under 21 years of age. Therefore, we made a conscious decision in order to keep our guests safe to raise our limits two years ago to 21 to operate a PWC.

Regulations change primarily due to accidents. This is why Navarre Family Watersports takes the time to thoroughly review and enforce rules and regulations to ensure a safe and fun environment for families. It’s part of our duty to ensure that families can enjoy our jet ski activities with well-maintained equipment for years to come.

Thank you for understanding and helping to keep our industry viable for years to come!
